Although his team came up three points shy of a spot in the Class 4A-I Region II final, Caden Hayes had a plenty successful senior season.
With a whopping 180 tackles and 39 tackles for loss, the Melissa linebacker earned Class 4A Defensive Player of the Year honors Tuesday morning as announced by the Associated Press Sports Editors. Hayes led his team to a 7-3 regular season that included wins against Celina and Anna, he and was one of six Dallas-area players to be awarded a spot on the first-team defense.
Argyle wide receiver Cole Kirkpatrick was just one of two local representatives on the first-team offense — the junior made 41 catches on the season, totaling 1,061 yards and 18 touchdowns. But Kirkpatrick’s quarterback, Argyle senior Bo Hogeboom, was the second-team quarterback after a season in which he completed 63.7 percent of his passes for 3,719 yards and 57 touchdowns with 13 interceptions.
